Star Trek Comics Checklist

The Star Trek lianhuanhua

This comic is a lianhuanhua, a palm-sized book containing sequential drawings and text, published in China.

1983
The Star Trek
Huacheng Publishing House
An adaptation of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, possibly based on the tie-in novel by Gene Roddenberry. The art bears no resemblance to the characters and starship that we know and love, and yet, this is the story of Kirk, Lt. Ilia, Spock, Ilia probe, V'Ger and the Enterprise.

The small book is 3.56 inches x 4.94 inches. The entire black & white comic, with more than 140 pages, has been scanned and posted online. I don't know of any translations at this time.

The spaceship on the cover, which also appears on interior pages, is swiped from cover art by Boris Vallejo for 1978 Hugo and Nebula award winning science fiction novel Gateway, written by Frederick Pohl, published in hardcover and mass market paperback. Thanks to Rich Handley for pointing out the artwork.

Another cover swipe was used for a Klingon; from the 1977 Corgi edition of The Price of the Phoenix by Myrna Culbreath and Sondra Marshak with cover art by Joe Petagno. Thanks to Ian McLean for bringing this to my attention.

The artist, Song Feideng, also worked on Star Wars lianhuanhua.

Are there more science-fictional Easter eggs in this comic? Please let me know if you find any.
