A rough-looking pair of travelers arrive at Deep Space Nine. After giving up their weapons to Odo, they make their way along the crowded promenade. Kira wants to know when docking pylon three will be back in service. O'Brien is trying to explain. Two kids, a human and a Ferengi, run past. The med center is busy. Quark's is open. In the command center, Sisko tells Jadzia Dax that the quiet is making him jumpy. Kira is worried about an unusual increase in visitors arriving, but Sisko dismisses her concerns. Odo wants Quark to explain why he's so busy. Kira and Odo are convinced that something is up. O'Brien learns that visitors are rummaging through bulkheads and storage lockers. A fight breaks out at Quark's. Shots are fired and a young man is hurt. His father apologizes to Kira for not respecting her instincts. And he's furious. Stardate 48987.3

Deep Space Nine is overrun by visitors claiming to be sightseers. Operations is barely able to avert a docking pylon disaster. O'Brien is certain that all the damage to the station is being done by someone looking for something. While sick bay fills up with injured tourists, Sisko has an unsatisfactory chat with Gul Dukat looking for information. Odo and Kira interrogate the visitors who injured Jake, playing on their fears. Finally, one of them explains what everyone is looking for and why the station is being torn up.

Backed up by O'Brien's investigation of the station, Kira and Odo tell Sisko the tale told by Quinn and Portafoy. A shady Triexian sold them information claiming that a Cardassian administrator hid a fortune in jewels and precious metals when the occupation of Bajor ended, leaving clues to the treasure's location in the station itself. Sisko orders Odo and Kira to lock down the station and follow the money, leading them to the usual suspect. Meanwhile, Dr. Bashir has lunch with the other usual suspect, who offers his help finding the treasure.

Garak offers his assistance to Sisko. After examining the glyphs that everyone thinks are clues that lead to treasure, Garak proposes a slight deception to rid DS9 of the treasure hunters tearing apart the station. Quinn and Portafoy are released from detention. Quark, who has ears everywhere, gives them the coordinates of the treasure and they travel to a remote location on Bajor. The moment they strike it rich, the Bajoran deputy minister of reclamations arrives with Kira, hailing Quinn and Portafoy as heroes. In the aftermath of the discovery, life returns to normal on the station, but Garak misses a luncheon appointment with Bashir. He has a business opportunity on Bajor to attend to. It's not easy being a tailor.
